The student e-portfolios: Importance and relevance at higher learning institutions
Main Article Content
Abstract
The integration of student e-portfolios in higher learning institutions has become increasingly vital in enhancing academic, professional, and personal development. It increases the strategic value of students, positioning them as a nexus between learning, assessment and employability in higher-education settings. Beyond pedagogical benefits, e-portfolios strengthen graduate employability by allowing students to present multimodal evidence of competencies like problem-solving skill, teamwork, digital literacy to prospective employers, often more richly than traditional curriculum vitae. By allowing students to document their learning journey, showcase competencies, and align academic outcomes with real-world skills, e-portfolios foster deeper engagement and ownership of learning. Additionally, they support faculty in tracking student progress and facilitating personalized feedback. As digital platforms continue to shape education, e-portfolios stand out as essential components of modern pedagogy, bridging the gap between institutional goals and lifelong learning. This editorial explores the importance and relevance of e-portfolios as dynamic tools for reflection, assessment, and career preparation of students at higher learning institutions.
